Bully Victim – Hand held One/Long Take Evaluation
Bully Victim – Hand held One/Long Take Evaluation
Attempting a long take is a lot harder than it looks. In our group, we had planned to include various changes of POV which could likewise change the atmosphere, mood and level of tension. This is because a successful long shot can imitate or create the illusion of using various different shots, camera angles and editing. Something I believe we did well was filming the beginning which displayed a camera angle from the POV of the bully looking at the victim. I think we did this well because although it was handheld, the shots were smooth.
Our aim was to change between different POV’s but it was very clear where the exchanging happened. To improve this, it would be better if the exchanges were not so evident. This way we could also create the illusion of different shots. Long takes appear very often in action films, scenes where there are shifts between moods and built up tension. I think we could have also improved this if we had planned every single detail so that it fell in sync with the camera movement. As in improvement, we could have also cut down the ‘walking’ part because it was too long and made it seem irrelevant (from 0:52 – 2:01).
Overall, to successfully achieve a long take shot it would require many trials and a lot of planning.
